We Are Excited To Introduce The Team Behind CGH Accounting!

Spring salutations to all our clients and families around the Central Highlands, Surfcoast and further afield.

In September our accountants and in fact all our staff are right in the thick of it. It is our busiest time of year as we attend to many, many tax returns; ensuring that we get you the best possible outcomes for the financial year 2022-2023.

You will notice that we have updated our website recently, to include more functionality and information and also with more about us. We are a fairly tight crew, operating out of Ballarat and Torquay. CGH Accounting has been around for more than a decade now, and has grown in that time.

There are a few staff who have been with us for the whole journey so far, and others who have joined in recent times. In this newsletter we share a ‘meet the team’ summary, and of course, as is our custom, we share a couple of tips on events happening in Ballarat and Torquay.

Love A Joke:)

Another element in our blogs which has become customary is the posting of an accountant joke or two, for a bit of a laugh. This month we found these gems:

Q: Why did the ATO audit Sherlock Holmes?
A: Because he had too many deductions.

Q: Why did the accountants end their romance?
A: They couldn’t reconcile their differences.

Local Events Of Interest

Our number crunching legends have noticed the following events happening in the latter part of September in Ballarat and Torquay:

Ballarat: Our Spreadsheet Jockeys are getting a bit hot under the collar about this one: September 23, @ PhysiPole Studios Ballarat: Late Night Seduction Showcase, featuring various performances from their adult classes, including Pole Dancing, Twerking, Heels and more. 18+. Tickets $20.

Torquay: It’s hard to beat a gig and a big night at The Torquay Pub! Later this month there are a few good bands playing, including the DMA’s, Boy & Bear and the Jan Juc Jets. Get down there, get a few bourbon & cokes into you and rock on! You’re bound to bump into one of our Accountaholics at the bar there, chilling out after a big day on the calculator, making sure you don’t pay a cent more tax than is legally required.

Meet the Team:

CGH Accounting Services was established by Chris Hunter (B.Bus, BA, GradDip Acc) in 2012. Chris has been an accounting and business advisory professional for over 20 years. He’s a great organiser, which is lucky, as Chris usually has a number of balls in the air, juggling the running of the business and a very busy family life.

Chris is an expert on the Australian Tax System and is the first port of call for most queries from clients and staff. Chris likes to spend time with family and friends outside of work, especially around Torquay, and he also puts his accounting skills to use as treasurer for his local cricket club.

Jason Wight (B.Bus Acc, CPA, Tax Agent), Director and highly experienced CPA accountant, handles many of the super complex issues which arise on a daily basis. He specialises in business advisory, superannuation and SMSF.

Jason is a very personable and passionate practitioner who delivers outstanding results. Jason also helps out with the books at his local Primary School and Tennis Club. Jason is a steak aficionado…

The day-to-day running of the show at CGH Accounting is handled superbly by our office manager, Jodie Wakefield. She has the winning combination of many years’ experience in management, admin and bookkeeping across a range of businesses and accounting practices – along with an eye for detail.

Jodie brings a rare dedication and commitment to her dealings with our staff and clients. Her natural friendliness, integrity and sincerity shine through in all her interactions with people. Jodie loves travel, music, theatre – and emojis!

Senior accountant Rosanna Abela came to work for our relatively small outfit from one of the big ones, Ernst & Young, in 2015. And we are very glad she did. Rosanna is a gun when it comes to tax accounting.

Outside of work though, she’s a total creative – into painting, baking sourdough, growing tomatoes…Rosanna and her husband even created (built) their own house on an acreage outside of Ballarat; most impressive stuff!

Seiko Hunter is Chris’ wife, but don’t hold that against her! Seiko is a whiz kid when it comes to administration and all matters organisational. Seiko keeps everything behind the scenes running smoothly, assisting the directors and staff across a wide range of tasks, as well as keeping the Hunter family on track.

Seiko is bilingual and this has meant the practice has helped numerous Japanese ex-pats with their business and taxation needs.

Sam McKeegan is our accountant specialising in sole traders and small businesses. He has been with us since our expansion in 2019. Sam has sound knowledge and understanding of business and individual tax returns and a fantastic aptitude for analysing and organising data. On the weekends Sam can be found camping and fishing and off-roading…

Our Junior Accountant and youngest member of the team is Lola Radford. Lola is on her way to becoming a fully-fledged accountant, and in the meantime is learning the ropes from the pros at CGH. Outside of work, Lola is a contemporary dance teacher, wow! – we told you accountants were interesting folks!
